Class covers technique and drills to strengthen clarity, rhythm, and agility. Work on challenging choreography that focuses on musicality.
Tap Shoes required.

Class dives into drills for speed, musicality, and phrasing. Learn tricks and turns with intricate footwork as well as history and choreography from The Copasetics.

Kate Cavenagh has over 20 years of tap teaching experience and is currently working with the American Tap Dance Foundation in NYC to complete Level 3 of their Tap Teacher Training. She grew up dancing under Miss Jackie Lynn in Middletown, CT and has mentored under Barbra Duffy and the ATDF Faculty since the early 2000s. Kate attends and performs at Tap festivals in NYC, is a member of the #Taplife Company, and taught classes in history and improvisation at #Camplife (#Taplife festival, NH) in the summer of 2018. She has been the coach of the Uconn Tap Team (2011-2018) and is the current dance captain for the Greater Hartford division of #Taplifetoo. She is the founder and artistic director of the Connecticut Tap Collaborative, a dance and music company that promotes education, tradition, and improvisation.

Rachel Armstrong began her dance training at the age of 5 in her hometown of Simsbury, Connecticut and has been dancing ever since.  Upon matriculating to The University of Connecticut in 2001, she became a member of the Uconn All Stars, competing and performing in Step and Hip Hop dance. After earning her BS in kinesiology, Rachel returned to her home town studio to bring step and hip-hop dance to Simsbury. She has taught at private schools and private studios throughout the state, and has conducted workshops on hip hop dance. She successfully completed the Acrobatic Arts curriculum, is a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor and is thrilled to be teaching Acro dance. In addition she has completed many dance workshops, in state and out of state, including many at Disney World. Her choreography comes from her soul, and she enjoys teaching not just the basic moves, but a love and passion for dance and movement.

November 3rd - Ballet with Megan Edmonds - REGISTER by 10/28/18

Class will start with Barre and move on to Center work and across the floor. Emphasis will be placed on proper alignment and technique while learning to appreciate the beauty and grace of the art form. Dancers will learn a variation from The Nutcracker!! 
A leotard and tights and ballet shoes with hair in a bun is recommended. 
Sat. Nov. 3rd - 4:00-6:00pm (Intermediate/Advanced (Ages 10+ and Adults) Cost: $37

Megan Edmonds is the former owner and artistic director of Portsmouth School of Ballet in Portsmouth, NH from 2013-2017. She sold the school in 2017 to have more time with family.  She now owns Blessed Day Photography and focuses on dance photography!  Megan comes from Colorado and Oklahoma where she trained, danced professionally, and taught dance. She started her own dance program for children in Colorado; has instructed for over 20 dance studios across the United States, choreographed and performed in many Regional theatre productions, danced with professional dance companies, and has coached numerous dance teams.  As owner of the Portsmouth School of Ballet, Megan directed over 27 performances including “A Midsummer’s Night Dream”, “Cinderella”, numerous Prescott Park performances and their annual performance of “The Nutcracker”.

 

Megan has been judging for Step Up 2 Dance Competitions starting in 2012.  She danced and trained with the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, Richmond Ballet in Virginia, San Diego Ballet and was a company member for the Former Ballet Emmanuel Ballet Company of Colorado Springs from 2006-2009. Megan attended the University of Oklahoma for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater.

 

She brings a strong passion and enthusiasm coupled with her expertise to inspire those who come to her to perform and dance. She is well qualified in preparing those who aspire to a career in the performance industry.  She led her studio to many studio excellence awards, technique awards, overalls and personally won many choreography awards.  Under Megan’s direction, the Portsmouth School of Ballet won 4 Best of the Best awards for the Seacoast area.  Many of Megan’s former students have received top honors at competitions, gone on to dance professionally or teach, and received available scholarships to colleges and dance programs.  She feels honored to continue to pass on her love of theatre and arts to all those around her.  She currently freelances as a dance instructor all throughout New England.  Megan lives in Maine with her two beautiful daughters and wonderful husband!

November 17th - Spanish Flamenco with Alison Bogatay

Students will be introduced to the beauty of this cultural dance style! They will explore the basics of Spanish dance through footwork (zapateado), arm (braceo), and clapping (palmas) techniques, and learn about its exciting origins. Dancers will also have fun discovering the “secret language of the Fan” through storytelling and their own DIY craft! Perfect for boys, as well!


Character or jazz shoes, preferred. No sneakers or bare feet, please.

Sat. Nov. 17th - 3:00-4:30pm (Ages 12+ and Adults) Cost: $29


Students will be introduced to the beauty of this cultural dance style! Alison Bogatay is the Artistic Director of Allongé Dance Variations which was founded in 2006 and has received recognition for its uniqueness in fusing Contemporary Dance, Classical Ballet and Spanish Flamenco styles. The Greater Hartford area-based Company performs, teaches and nurtures the art of dance in its many forms, "providing education and inspiration through creativity and passion." ADV strives to seek out opportunities for Community & Collaboration with diverse artists and venues. Their work has been associated with CONCORA, Wadsworth Atheneum, and the New Britain Museum of American Art, where a site-specific piece was premiered in 2007 & a “Latke-Vodka” holiday dance party was held in 2016.

 

Since relocating from NYC, Alison has taught Spanish Flamenco, Ballet, Contemporary-Improvisation and Musical Theatre dance styles at many prestigious schools and universities throughout the state.

 

Performance Highlights include: Professional company member with New Dance Collective, Danbury and Angels In Shadows, NYC; Summer Stock & Regional theater, including Bucks County Playhouse, Surflight Theatre, New Harmony Theatre, and Indianapolis Civic Theater; Ted Hershey Dance & Music Marathon;

Hartford Dances! at The Bushnell; NBC 30 Health & Wellness Festival; CT Latino Expo; NPR's fundraising event hosted by Faith Middleton & performing with Val Ramos; Asylum Hill Congregational Church's Boar's Head & Yule Log Festival; performer/choreographer in Chicago & Hairspray for the Opera House Players.

 

She was selected as one of 8 choreographers in the state to feature her work for the CT Dance Alliance Festival, choreographed the ‘Dance of the Seven Veils’ for Connecticut Opera’s production of Salome, and assisted director/choreographer Billy Johnstone in mounting the first National high school production of Cats at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts where she was an artist/instructor for 7 years.

 

Ms. Bogatay began serious training at the Ballet des Jeunes outside of Philadelphia and through their

Pre-Professional program, traveled and performed throughout Romania, Bulgaria and Spain. Alison was mentored and influenced by the teaching guidance of Ursula Melita, Stuart Sebastian, Sherri Noble, Karl Kaufmann, Michelle Jarvis, Luigi, Michael Vernon, David Howard and Gelsey Kirkland.

She studied and performed at the Pennsylvania Ballet and the Dance Theater of Harlem (full scholarship), as well as intensively at Steps and Broadway Dance Center in NYC, and was a BFA dance major at Butler University.

December 1st - Hip-Hop with Lili St. Amand

Fun and energetic beginner class focusing on the foundations of Hip Hop dance.

Sat. Dec. 1st - 3:45-4:45pm (Ages 11+ and Adults) Cost: $22

Energetic intermediate to advanced class building and expanding on the foundation of Hip Hop dance. This class will challenge your skills to bring you to the next level.

Lili “Bloom” St. Amand has been teaching Hip Hop since she was sixteen! She found her love for Hip Hop when she was six years old. She believes in spreading her love and knowledge for Hip Hop through her teaching and is always eager to teach the next generation so Hip Hop can stay alive. Lili has participated in countless battles. In May 2017 Lili had won World Of Dance New Jersey Head Bangerz Brawl. She was asked to come back in 2018 to judge the battle and preform on stage. Lili continues to constantly educate herself and be on the Hip Hop scene so she can stay current and give her students the best knowledge and teachings possible.

December 15th - Nutcracker Ballet w/ Ann Schwenzer 
Sat. Dec. 15th - 1:15-2:15pm (Ages 3-6) Cost: $22
Your dancer will take a Ballet class with Miss Ann in the Theme of "The Nutcracker," dancing to the beautiful music from this well-known Classical Ballet!  Dancers will be visited by a very special Ballerina who will perform in her Pointe Shoes!!
Dancers should come dressed in dance clothes or form fitted attire. Ballet shoes are recommended but bare feet are also fine if you do not own Ballet shoes. 

Ann Schwenzer earned her Bachelors of Science in both Landscape Architecture and Dance through Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey. She has expertise in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Pointe, Tap, Pre-Ballet, and Creative Movement. Ann has choreographed for Performing Arts Programs Summer Theater,Terpsichore Dance and Theatre Company, Avon Chamber holiday event, CT Dance Alliance’s Out for Art event, Farmington Valley Chorale, Act One Players, and Thompson Brook School Musical Theater. She has performed at The Bushnell for Gary Craig’s Holiday Show, The Arts and Ideas festival with Susan Matheke, and has danced in local dance companies including Dirt Dancers,  Allongé Dance Variations, and MAss Dance Project. Several of Ann’s students have danced for UConn's competitive dance team and Hip-Hop team and have danced at The Orange Bowl’s half-time shows. She has experience in business management as well as planning programs that teach students to dance with proper technique and gain a sense of appreciation for the art form through class exercises as well as in-house dance workshops and master classes. Ann has attended The Pulse On Tour and learned from well known choreographers including Dave Scott, Brooke Lipton, Tessandra Chavez, Desmond Richardson, and Chris Judd as well as has taken business seminars and master classes through Dance Life Retreat Center, a center for studio owners and teachers developed by Rhee Gold to educate studio owners and teachers on the business aspects of studio ownership as well as providing curriculum and choreography ideas. She has also taken Professional Development courses through National Dance Education Organization and Studio Expansion Program, to further her education in dance. Ann is blessed to have the opportunity to be able to follow her passion for dance and share her knowledge and experience with Studio A dancers!
